AT THE HEART OF THE FUTURE LOIRE SANTÉ HOSPITAL, IRS 2020 TAKES SHAPE

To strengthen the links between clinical activities, research and teaching, a third Health Research Institute (Institut de Recherche en Santé or IRS, in French), named IRS 2020, is currently under construction at the heart of the future Loire Santé Hospital. This development addresses a long-standing, documented need and forms part of the strategic hospital-university trajectory of the Nantes site. It builds on the investment in the IRS-UN (2008) and IRS2-Nantes Biotech (2016) research buildings and represents the next major milestone in this strategy to expand health research facilities. These premises, made available to Nantes Université, will house several joint health research units, including UMR 1280 PhAN.

LEVEX microREGAL Project – CRNH-Ouest

The microREGAL project, funded through the LEVEX call of the CRNH-Ouest and running until the end of 2026, aims to elucidate the role of GLP-1 in the regulation of food reward, in interaction with the gut microbiota. Led by the Rennes-based laboratory NuMeCan (Adélie Salin, Gaëlle Boudry) in collaboration with PhAN (Vincent Paillé), this seed project investigates the neurobiological mechanisms underlying individual and sex-specific differences in responsiveness to GLP-1 analogues, which are increasingly used in clinical practice. PhAN's contribution focuses on identifying and characterizing the brain pathways and gut–brain circuits involved in GLP-1 signaling, with particular attention to vagal afferent pathways and reward-related neural networks. By integrating microbiota, endocrine and neuroscience approaches, microREGAL aims to generate robust preliminary data to support a future ANR proposal, with strong translational potential for understanding and managing eating behavior disorders.

Scientific symposium - Research into the first 1000 days and DOHaD in 2025

The aim of this symposium, organised by Hervé Blottière, DU of UMR 1280 PhAN, will be to take stock of research on the first 1,000 days of life and the concept of the Developmental Origin of Health and Disease (DOHaD). The work carried out at UMR PhAN on this theme will be particularly highlighted. External speakers will also be invited. The first 1,000 days of life, including pregnancy, are a critical period in the development of the foetus, the newborn and the child, but also contribute to their future health. We will discuss how early events (foetal and neonatal periods) such as malnutrition, exposure to xenobiotics (drugs, pesticides) and the metabolic status of parents increase the risk of illnesses later in life, including cardiometabolic, inflammatory and psychiatric diseases. The focus will be on the microbiota-gut-brain axis. The importance of placental flow and maternal milk will also be discussed. The deadline for registration is May 11. Welcome to Anne-Lyse PANHELEUX

Anne-Lyse Panhéleux has been an INRAE research technician since 2008. After starting at the BioGEVES laboratory in Magneraud, she joined the UR BIA on the site of La Geraudiere in Nantes in 2017. Recently, Anne-Lyse joined UMR PhAN on a mobility scheme. Initially specialized in molecular biology for the detection and quantification of GMOs in seeds and plants (maize, rapeseed, soy), her career path has enabled her to diversify her analytical activities, particularly in plant biochemistry. At PhAN, Anne-Lyse has taken charge of gas chromatography for the determination of lipids and bacterial metabolites. She adapts to the analytical needs of PhAN's research themes around perinatal nutrition, the physiology of the functions of the microbial-gut-brain axis and metabolism. Anne-Lyse is a prevention assistant and a member of the unit's Corporate Social Responsibility group. The PhAN Unit is delighted to welcome Anne-Lyse, whose skills are invaluable for scientific projects and our team. We wish her a warm welcome and a long life at PhAN !

Feedback from the PhAN workshop at Researchers' Night

On 6 February 2025, our research unit had the pleasure of taking part in the 9th Researchers' Night, organised by Nantes University, on the theme of ‘Metamorphoses’. During the event, we had the pleasure of hosting the great goose game on the diet of the first 1,000 days. The evening was an opportunity to share our work with the general public and discuss the key role of food during this period of intense change, which shapes our long-term health. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the organisers and participants for these mutually enriching moments.
