Organised every March since 1999, Brain Week is coordinated in France by the Society for Neuroscience. This international event, initiated by the Dana Foundation, takes place simultaneously in around a hundred countries and over 100 towns in France. Its aim is to raise public awareness of the importance of brain research. It is also an opportunity for many researchers to meet the general public, to present the advances made in neuroscience research laboratories, to explain what is at stake in our understanding of the brain and to show the implications for our society.

Throughout Brain Week, the general public is invited to come and meet those involved in research to find out more about how the brain works and to keep abreast of the latest scientific news. The event stands out for its national and international scope, the large number of people involved, its public success and the quality of its programme.

In 2024, almost 100,000 young people and adults took part in the event.
